I’m a bit saddened by the city fire marshall’s decision – last minute – that the city would not be doing fireworks this year… and when I say last minute, I really mean last minute as in an hour after the show was supposed to start! Thankfully we weren’t out there waiting in the cold but toasty warm waiting at our neighbor’s house. They live on a hill with an excellent view of the valley below including the location where the fireworks usually take place.
I understand the decision. We’ve had a number of really bad fires already this summer so he was just being cautious. Don’t want to risk starting any more fires with an errant ember. But, the two cities on either side of ours DID fireworks!! We were able to see those despite the distance…. So, what the fuuu..? Anyway, we stayed up until almost 10:00pm waiting, which would have been fine if not for the fact that the two gremlins were still up. And 10:00pm is WAY, WAY, WAY passed their normal bed times.
I’m pretty sure I had a point here somewhere but I’ve completely lost it in my ADD state. Oh, yeah, it was to say that we did have a nice 4th of July. Hectic, but quite fun. And just in case you want to see the timeline, it went like this:
9:30am leave house to go downtown for Parade
9:45am find parking spot & begin wandering around until we could find a suitable viewing location
9:55am finagle ourselves in between two other families who were sitting in chairs
10:20am the 10:00am parade finally gets started
11:30am we leave after so much complaining by the gremlins about being “starving”
11:45am eat snacks
1:00pm go to neighbors house for BBQ
1:05pm realize that we shouldn’t have accepted the invitation to this party since we do not know A SOUL
3:45pm finally get some damn food
4:00pm Pumkin falls asleep on the husband’s lap while eating
4:30pm get the hell out and go home
4:40pm husband and Honey bunny go to other neighbor’s house for pool party/ BBQ – I get to stay home with sleeping 3 yr old
5:20pm realize that I better wake up Pumpkin & go to party or we might miss the whole thing
5:25pm carry semi-sleeping child to neighbors
OK, this is taking far too long. So we spent the rest of the night at the neighbors swimming (well the Honey bunny was swimming & the husband took Pumpkin swimming). We drank toxic margaritas – not toxic like poison but toxic like FULL OF TEQUILA, ate too much food, and waited, waited, waited for some fireworks. Which as you know, cause you hopefully read the first part of this post, there weren’t any.
Oh well, maybe next year….
Thanks for listening (or reading, if you must be technical),
P.S. Yeah, I finally finished! It’s only 12 days later.
